Collection of documents (originals and copies), primarily of a juridical-ecclesiastical nature and relating to the Church, the monastic orders, or the Inquisition in Mexico. (Cont.) Topics treated comprise preservation of Church buildings, particularly at Calimaya (Tenango del Valle), 1748-1796; proposed transfer to the Crown, and subsequently to the Mexican Republic, of an entailed estate bequeathed by Juan Félix Ramírez Ponce de León to the Jesuit college of San Pedro y San Pablo, 1831; trial of Santiago Hernández by the Inquisition on charges of bigamy and concubinage, 1769-1785; trial before an ecclesiastical tribunal of Canon Antonio Jiménez, vicar general of the Valladolid Cathedral Chapter, charged with maladministration by Francisco Pacheco, fiscal of the See of Michoacán, 1595; suit of Juan de Ayala, corregidor of Zumpango, against Alonso del Guijo (alias "de Arguijo," "de Alguijo"), a cleric of Jaltocán, charged with disturbing the peace and impeding administration, 1652; and two letters from Francisco Antonio de Aldama, petitioning for a canonry in the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, near Mexico City, and for other ecclesiastical favors, 1785-1788.
